About Christmas Market Greifswald
Christmas Market Greifswald — edition 2026
The 2026 Advent edition of the Greifswald Christmas Market runs from Wednesday, November 26, to Monday, December 21, 2026. The venue, as always, is the Historic Market Square and the adjacent Fish Market in the heart of the Hanseatic old town.
Around 35 stalls offer arts and crafts, mulled wine, gingerbread, candied almonds, and maritime specialties. On the fish market, a fairy tale forest, a historic carousel, and a Ferris wheel await. At the centre: a 16-meter-high, festively decorated fir tree and the wooden Advent church with devotions, concerts, and readings daily from 3 PM to 6 PM.

Advent Atmosphere in the Hanseatic City Centre
The Greifswald Christmas Market is spread across two of the city's most beautiful squares: the historic market square and the fish market by the harbour basin. For about four weeks — from the last weekend in November until shortly before Christmas — festively decorated wooden stalls, fairy lights, and a 16-meter-high fir tree transform the old town centre into an Advent landscape. The medieval brick Gothic architecture provides the backdrop for mulled wine evenings, gift hunting, and quiet moments.
Around 35 Exhibitors and a Reflective Program
Approximately 35 stalls offer arts and crafts, regional specialties, mulled wine, candied almonds, Pulsnitz gingerbread, and maritime items from Vorpommern. A cozy Advent village with a fairy tale forest for children, a historic carousel, and a small Ferris wheel is set up on the fish market.
Wooden Advent Church with Daily Devotions
A special feature of Greifswald: For 13 years, a wooden Advent church has stood in the middle of the market, run by the Greifswald Chapel Community. Daily between 3 PM and 6 PM, it invites visitors to devotions, Advent concerts, readings, and quiet moments — a spiritual counterpoint to the festive hustle and bustle.
Local Context
Greifswald belongs to the district of Vorpommern-Greifswald in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. In the Middle Ages, the Hanseatic city was a member of the Hanseatic League — the historic market square with its town hall and gabled houses dates from this period. Together with St. Nicholas Cathedral, it forms one of the most impressive brick Gothic ensembles on the Baltic Sea.
