Krefeld, with around 226,000 inhabitants, one of the largest cities on the Lower Rhine and an independent city in the administrative district of Düsseldorf, known for its silk tradition and Bauhaus architecture, will once again be the venue for one of the most renowned gourmet street food events in North Rhine-Westphalia in August 2026. From Friday, August 21, to Sunday, August 23, 2026, the festival will take place on the Grüner Ostwall – the green promenade axis between the city center and the Stadtgarten.

Around 70 Exhibitors, Three Categories

Unlike the July edition on Ostwall (classic street food), the August gourmet edition is aimed at an audience seeking upscale culinary experiences. Three categories can be distinguished: upscale cuisine (fine dining excerpts from well-known Krefeld and Lower Rhine restaurants in tapas portions), street food classics (international, from Korean to Vietnamese to Latin American), and creative food concepts (crossover, vegan-fine dining, fusion cuisine). Around 70 exhibitors in total.

Wine, Craft Beer, Cocktails, Coffee

The beverage selection also distinguishes the gourmet festival from the classic street food market: wine merchants from the Lower Rhine and German growing regions offer tastings, craft beer breweries from NRW (including from Krefeld itself, Düsseldorf, Cologne) are represented, cocktail bars for the evening ambiance, specialty coffee providers for the afternoons. The concept aims for longer visits – the Mediterranean promenade atmosphere invites you to linger.

Atmosphere and Music

The Grüner Ostwall with its plane trees and seating offers the ideal summer backdrop: on weekends, the axis transforms into a relaxed outdoor lounge with lounge furniture, high tables, and umbrellas. Live music (jazz, lounge, singer-songwriter) provides the appropriate acoustic accompaniment in the afternoons and evenings – consciously curated sound rather than loud stage shows. Expected visitor numbers: around 12,000 over three days.

Krefeld as a Street Food Hotspot

Organizer Wellfairs GmbH hosts similar gourmet street food festivals in several NRW cities. Krefeld has become a firm fixture on the street food calendar in recent years – in addition to the main event on Ostwall in July, the August gourmet edition complements the offering. The city uses the events to liven up the city center with culinary events and attract visitors from the entire Lower Rhine region and the neighboring Ruhr area.

Getting There

The Grüner Ostwall is within walking distance of Krefeld main station (approx. 10 minutes) and the city center. By car: A 57 exit Krefeld-Zentrum, paid parking garages in the city center. Reachable from Düsseldorf, Duisburg, and Mönchengladbach by train every hour.
