Three-day street art festival on Glowe's beach promenade
Glowe is located in the north of Rügen, between the chalk cliffs of Jasmund and the sandy tongue of the Schaabe. The beach promenade, stretching along the Baltic Sea beach, is the social center of the Baltic Sea resort in midsummer. For three days at the end of July or beginning of August, it becomes a stage — when the Glower Promenadenzauber takes place, a lovingly staged street art festival organized annually by the municipality of Ostseebad Glowe.
The Promenadenzauber thrives on the diversity of its artists: Classic clowning and acrobatics, acrobats, jugglers, fire-eaters, stilt walkers, historical circus acts (such as the Belgian street artist Gilbert Saltimbanque with his reminiscences of 19th-century travelling circuses) and variety performers like Katja Grahl shape the daytime program. In the evenings, as the sun slowly sets behind the Wittow peninsula, singer-songwriters and cover bands take over the festival stage.
The spectacle is accompanied by a culinary exhibition: Food trucks, regional vendors, and small stalls offer smoked fish from the Bodden, sea buckthorn specialties, bratwurst, crêpes, vegan bowls, beer, and wine. The long wooden tables under fairy lights and starry sky invite you to linger — many guests stay until 10 p.m., the daily end of the program.
The Promenadenzauber is part of a conscious concept by the municipality of Glowe to add cultural value to beach tourism. Unlike the large open-air festivals on the Baltic coast, the Promenadenzauber is deliberately kept small: family-friendly, artistically high-quality, with free admission. Those who come to the promenade after a day at the beach in the late afternoon will find a relaxed festival atmosphere — children marvel at the clowns, adults enjoy a beer with live music.
In 2026, the Glowe beach promenade will once again become the venue for the Promenadenzauber for three days. As in previous years, visitors can expect a varied program of street art, acrobatics, and music. Artists from Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and international artists (most recently Gilbert Saltimbanque from Belgium) will shape the program.
The highlights are the evenings, when the festival stage features live music and the fairy lights above the festival meadow are switched on. Food trucks and regional vendors will provide culinary catering.
The exact artist lineup for 2026 will be announced a few weeks before the festival at glowe.de. In previous years, artists such as Gilbert Saltimbanque (historical circus acts, fire-eater) and Katja Grahl (variety) performed.
