"Närrische Stadthalle" Altenkirchen
The Stadthalle Altenkirchen is the central venue of the district town, offering space for several hundred visitors as a multi-purpose hall. During the carnival season, it is renamed the "Närrische Stadthalle" and elaborately decorated by the KG Altenkirchen. The season's motto 'ALL IN — aufs Leben' will influence the hall's decoration in 2026 with motifs of playing cards, elements of the tree of life, and carnival colors.
Program of a Große Prunksitzung
The Große Prunksitzung follows the classic program of a Rhenish carnival session. It begins with the entry of the "Elferrat" (council of eleven) and the season's royalty, Princess Andrea II, with her court. This is followed by a mix of satirical speeches (Büttenreden), performances by dance troupes, musical contributions, honors for the royalty, and show acts. The performances come from within the KG AK itself, as well as from guest speakers and artists from the Westerwald and Rhineland regions.

Season's Motto 'ALL IN — aufs Leben'
The 2026 motto is a humorously philosophical invitation to live life to the fullest – fitting the carnival philosophy, which views the jesters' revelry as a conscious interruption of everyday life and an affirmation of the joy of living. The choice of motifs for stage performances and the decoration of the Stadthalle play with the double meaning of gambling and the affirmation of life.

The Große Prunksitzung is part of an extensive season program by the KG Altenkirchen. On February 12th, the "Altweiber" (Old Wives') party takes place in the Weyerdamm festival tent, followed by the children's carnival on February 14th. The highlight is the carnival parade on "Tulpensonntag" (Tulip Sunday), February 15, 2026.

Opening of the Große Prunksitzung by the session president of KG Altenkirchen. Entry of the Elferrat, the dance troupes, and the royalty — Princess Andrea II with her court. Welcome address to the guests and explanation of the season's motto 'ALL IN — aufs Leben'.
First Half of the Session
A mix of satirical speeches (Büttenreden), performances by dance troupes, and musical contributions from local and regional carnival artists. The "Bütt" (stage for speeches) is occupied alternately by members of the KG and invited guest speakers from the Westerwald and Rhineland.
Intermission
Refreshments in the foyer with potato pancakes (Reibekuchen), currywurst, other typical carnival snacks, beer, and cocktails. Socializing between guests and members.
Second Half of the Session
Show acts, further performances by dance troupes, highlight acts, and honors for the royalty. Sing-alongs to classic carnival hits and swaying rounds in the hall.
Session End
Conclusion with the carnival anthem, farewell to the royalty, and transition to an informal party in the foyer and hall.
