Multi-week cultural festival of the municipality of Gilching in the Fünfseenland — 12th edition themed "zusammen.WIRKEN" (working together)
The Gilching Art and Culture Week is the most significant cultural event in the municipality of Gilching in the Starnberg district. It is coordinated by the municipality's cultural officer, Jakobus Ciolek, and involves dozens of local artists, music groups, theater ensembles, authors, and cultural associations.
Gilching is located in the Starnberg district in Upper Bavaria (Bavaria state), southwest of Munich between Ammersee and Starnberger See — in the so-called Fünfseenland (Five Lakes Region). The municipality has around 18,000 inhabitants and combines the profile of an affluent Munich commuter belt with a culturally active population. Gilching shares its location on the Munich-Herrsching S-Bahn line with neighboring Olching, Germering, and Wessling.
Unlike centralized cultural festivals, the Gilching Culture Week takes place simultaneously at several venues — community center, library, schools, churches, galleries, and private spaces. This decentralization offers several advantages:
The results of the 11th edition in 2025 show the scale: over 50 events at 13 venues over 15 days, with nearly 3,000 visitors. This is an exceptionally dense program for a municipality of 18,000 inhabitants — over 8 events per day and a visitor rate of over 15% of the municipal population.
The Culture Week includes the following program pillars:
The motto "zusammen.WIRKEN" (working together) for the 12th edition combines the concepts of community and impact. It can be interpreted as a call for collaborative cultural work, for artists to mutually amplify each other's impact, and for the socio-political effect of culture in a community like Gilching.
The 2026 edition of the Gilching Art and Culture Week is themed "zusammen.WIRKEN" (working together). The municipality's cultural officer, Jakobus Ciolek, has been collecting submissions from local artists, music groups, theater ensembles, and cultural associations since early 2026.
Last year (11th edition 2025), over 50 events at 13 different venues were held over 15 days — with almost 3,000 visitors. The program included music (opening concert Marion & Sobo Band), theater, literature, visual arts, film, lectures, and interactive activities. The special guest performance "Oper-an-Canzone" by the Cecina association was among the most noted program items.
For 2026, at least a comparably dense program is expected. Current detailed information is available on kulturwoche-gilching.de and the festival's social media channels (Facebook, Instagram).
Current 2026 Program: on the festival website kulturwoche-gilching.de under "Termine" (Dates). The festival is open to artists from Gilching and the wider region who wish to submit their creative ideas.
Gilching is located in the Starnberg district, approx. 25 km west of Munich city center. Take the S-Bahn line S 8 (Munich–Herrsching), Gilching-Argelsried station. By car via the A 96 or B 2 (Gilching exit). Parking availability varies at different venues — arrive early for major events.
Most program items are free to attend; some events (concerts with national bands, special theater productions) may charge a small admission fee. Detailed price information for 2026 will be published in advance on kulturwoche-gilching.de.
