Advent atmosphere around the town church on the third weekend of Advent
The Geislingen Christmas Market is one of the traditional Advent markets in the Göppingen district and thus in the state of Baden-Württemberg. The venue is the historic center between the town church and the pedestrian zone – an ensemble of half-timbered houses, the Steige, and the Albtrauf, which is bathed in Christmas lights every year on the third weekend of Advent.
Professionals and amateurs complement each other in the range of stalls: nativity figures made of linden wood, felt scarves, candles, jams, and mulled wine variations from the region. In the last year, around 54 stalls were represented – the spectrum ranges from voluntarily run club stalls to regional manufacturers and social institutions that use their proceeds for charitable purposes.
A highlight for many regular visitors is the church café in the town church: on cold Advent days, it's one of the few places where you can sit with coffee and homemade cake and admire the stained-glass windows. While Mayor Frank Dehmer traditionally opens the market on Fridays at 6:15 PM, musical contributions conclude the days – brass ensembles, the Geislingen music school, and choirs perform on the stage in front of the church.
With around 27,000 inhabitants, Geislingen an der Steige is located between the upper Filstal valley and the Swabian Jura. For centuries, the town was a gateway between the Filstal plain and the Alb plateau – today it is known for WMF and its location on the Albtrauf. The Christmas market is characterized precisely by this symbiosis: regional crafts, a traditional setting, and an Advent atmosphere that doesn't feel artificial.
The concept remains the same: three days of Christmas market around the town church, with opening on Friday evening, a busy Saturday, and a family-friendly Sunday. Professionals and club stalls share the space. In the church café, there is coffee, cake, and a rare moment of peace in front of the stained-glass windows.
The town band, local choirs, and the Geislingen music school accompany the market with brass pieces, Advent songs, and small concerts on the stage in front of the church. The official program overview will be published on the city's website at the end of November 2026.
The final program list with performance times will be published in early December 2026 on geislingen.de.
