Spring fair for plants, garden, and decoration in a baroque setting
For years, Gartenträume auf Schloss Hundisburg has been the kick-off to the gardening season in the state of Saxony-Anhalt. As the first tulips bloom and the baroque castle park in the Börde district awakens from its winter slumber, gardeners from half of Europe set up their stalls. Across approximately 35,000 m² of exhibition space between castle walls, hedge gardens, and old linden avenues, a cross-section of the green industry is presented for three days.
Around 90 national and international exhibitors bring perennials, roses, shrubs, old vegetable varieties, and selected potted plants. Alongside these, you'll find everything to beautify your outdoor space: garden furniture, paving stones, raised beds, gazebos, outdoor kitchens, Corten steel sculptures, and hand-forged climbing aids. Those seeking inspiration can wander through show displays by renowned landscape designers — and those shopping will go home with a full wheelbarrow.
The supporting program focuses on knowledge rather than noise. Plant doctor René Wadas answers questions about ailing hydrangeas or unclear pest infestations, while lectures cover sustainable gardens, nature-oriented plantings, and trends in urban gardening. Workshops and guided tours round off the offerings. Culinary stands around the castle courtyard invite you to browse and relax — from asparagus pan and baked apples to pulled pork burgers and vegan cake.
The baroque Hundisburg estate is considered one of the most important castles in Saxony-Anhalt. Its associated garden, the work of a 17th-century Royal Court Gardener, has been extensively restored and is now part of the state initiative Gartenträume — Historische Parks in Sachsen-Anhalt (Garden Dreams — Historic Parks in Saxony-Anhalt). This is precisely what makes the fair special: you're not strolling through an exhibition hall, but through a living show garden with real hedge espaliers, water features, and sightlines — the most beautiful backdrop a garden fair could wish for.
The 2026 edition of Gartenträume runs from Friday, April 24, to Sunday, April 26, 2026 — daily from 10 AM to 6 PM. Around 90 exhibitors from Germany and neighboring countries will fill the castle park with perennials, roses, rare vegetables, garden furniture, and outdoor accessories. The focus: a program of lectures on nature-oriented gardening, consultation hours with the well-known plant doctor René Wadas, and guided walks through the historic castle garden.
