A Festival with History

Fürstenhausen is one of the northwestern districts of Völklingen, located across the Saar river and historically deeply rooted in mining and steel production. The proximity to the Völklingen Ironworks UNESCO World Heritage site is palpable here – many families have grandfathers or great-grandfathers who worked in the plant. The district festival on Erich-Schmidt-Platz is an expression of this close-knit village and industrial identity.

Three Days of Community Spirit

For three days – Friday evening to Sunday afternoon – the central square in the village center transforms into a festival mile. Associations from the district set up stalls: the sports club (SV 1919 Fürstenhausen), KSV Deutsche Eiche, carnival clubs, the shooting club, and church and youth groups. Each stall offers homemade food and drinks, from grilled specialties (Schwenkbraten) and fries to homemade cakes on Sunday afternoon.

Live Music All Three Days

Regional bands, DJ sets, and interactive programs alternate on the main stage. Friday evening is dominated by rock and cover bands, Saturday the main stage becomes more dance-oriented with Schlager and chart music, and Sunday focuses on the traditional morning pint (Frühschoppen) with brass band music, followed by an afternoon for families and a children's program.

Anniversary 2022 – Tradition Since Then

The festival received additional attention in 2022 when Völklingen celebrated 1200 years of city history, and Fürstenhausen integrated its district festival into the anniversary series. Since then, the event has been established as a permanent annual fixture in the summer calendar. Dates vary slightly between June and July and are determined by the Fürstenhausen Local Council in coordination with the district associations.

Fürstenhausen District Festival — edition 2026

The Fürstenhausen District Festival 2026 is planned as an annual summer event. The date will be finalized by the Fürstenhausen Local Council and the district associations in spring 2026 and announced on voelklingen.de.

The Fürstenhausen District Festival will again take place on Erich-Schmidt-Platz in 2026. Usual opening hours are Friday from 6 PM, Saturday from 5 PM, and Sunday from 1 PM. Live music and entertainment are planned for all three days.

The exact date will be announced in spring 2026 by the local council in coordination with the participating associations – typically on a weekend between mid-June and mid-July, depending on school holidays and parallel city festivals in Völklingen.
