Classical Music in the Gothic Cathedral

St. Mary's Cathedral in Fürstenwalde/Spree is one of the most impressive Gothic sacred buildings in the March of Brandenburg. Built in the 14th and 15th centuries, severely damaged in World War II, and rebuilt from the 1950s onwards, it still shapes the silhouette of the district town of Oder-Spree. The excellent acoustics of the three-nave hall make it an ideal concert venue — and this is precisely the quality the Cathedral Choir has been utilizing for years for its Fürstenwalder Sommermusiken.

A Concert Series with Tradition

The series was launched in the early 2000s and celebrates its 20th edition with the concert on July 12, 2026. The concept has remained consistent: a single summer evening with classical music in the cathedral, organized by the Protestant Parish Region Fürstenwalde/Spree and musically curated by the Cathedral Choir. Program focuses vary depending on the year — from Bach cantatas to romantic choral works and organ concerts and chamber music.

The anniversary concert begins at 5 PM on the 6th Sunday after Trinity. The exact program will be announced shortly by the Fürstenwalde Parish Office (contact details in practical information). However, you can look forward to a carefully curated selection of sacred and concert music that suits the sacred atmosphere of the space.

Free Admission — Donations Requested

For the Sommermusiken: Free admission, voluntary donations requested. The collection at the exit directly supports the church music activities of the cathedral parish — sheet music purchases, instrument maintenance, fees for guest musicians. Reservations are not possible; arriving early will secure you a good seat.
