Season opener in Himmelmannpark

The Frühlingsmarkt Fröndenberg is the event with which the town on the western edge of the Sauerland region kicks off the open-air season. The venue is the Himmelmannpark – one of Fröndenberg's green lungs, located between the city center and the Ruhr river. The market has been held on the first or second Sunday in April for years; in 2026, the date falls on Sunday, April 12.

Starts at 11 a.m.

The market opens at 11 a.m. and runs all day. Market stalls will be set up around the park paths in Himmelmannpark, with seating areas under the freshly leafed trees. The spatial connection between the park, the Kulturschmiede (cultural forge), and the neighboring city museum makes the market a tour through Fröndenberg's cultural landscape.

Arts and Crafts and Regional Products

The offerings follow the established line of the Fröndenberg markets: arts and crafts from the Ruhr valley and Sauerland (woodwork, ceramics, jewelry, textiles), regional products from the Sauerland (honey, cheese, preserves, sausages, liqueurs, wine), and spring flowers from local nurseries. Food trucks and snack stands offer hot meals and drinks.

Sunday Shopping in the City Center

In parallel with the market, the shops in Fröndenberg's city center will open for Sunday shopping from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. Market strolls and city shopping can be easily combined – Himmelmannpark is within walking distance of the city center. This combination regularly attracts visitors from the Unna district, the Sauerland, and Dortmund.

Kulturschmiede and City Museum

Right on the edge of the market are the Kulturschmiede – a municipal event and conference center – and the Fröndenberg City Museum. Both venues are often integrated into the program during the Frühlingsmarkt, with special guided tours or small concerts.

Fröndenberg/Ruhr – Town between Hellweg and Sauerland

Fröndenberg is located in the Unna district, directly on the Ruhr river and at the transition from the Hellweg depression to the Sauerland low mountain range. With around 21,000 inhabitants, the town is rather small but has active city marketing and one of the most beautiful city centers in the region. The Frühlingsmarkt is one of the central city events.
