Cycling marathon along the Weser river with up to 350 kilometers, start and finish in Rinteln, part of the German Cycling Marathon Cup
Since its first edition in 2011, the Grote Weserrunde has been one of Lower Saxony's outstanding cycling events. The concept is as simple as it is effective: a continuous circular route along the Weser, with start and finish in Rinteln, leads participants through one of Germany's most scenically diverse river valleys. Cyclists experience the Weserbergland from a perspective that is only fully revealed from the saddle of a road bike: dense forests, rolling hills, wide floodplains, and the ever-impressive views of the river.
The organizer, Weserbergland Tourismus, offers several route variations, so that hobby cyclists will find their place just as much as ambitious marathon cyclists. The longest variant covers around 350 kilometers, placing it at the upper end of what is offered as a one-day cycling marathon in Germany. Shorter routes offer beginners the opportunity to get to know the format and atmosphere without having to meet the full distance requirement.
In 2026, the Grote Weserrunde is a permanent fixture of the German Cycling Marathon Cup. This places Rinteln in a nationwide series that connects Germany's most important long-distance events. Competitors from all over Germany and neighboring countries travel to collect points for the overall standings.
The event begins on Friday evening, August 21, 2026, with the traditional pasta party. The convivial hours before race day serve for refueling, exchange, and strategizing. The finish area will also be a place for celebration on Saturday evening: returning after 350 kilometers on a road bike is reason enough for a jubilant atmosphere on the banks of the Weser.
The 2026 edition of the Grote Weserrunde is dedicated to the nationwide German Cycling Marathon Cup. The points classification and sporting challenge attract an international field of participants. Those who complete the full distance can expect to spend around 13 to 15 hours in the saddle, depending on pace and weather conditions.
The route is secured by an experienced team of marshals, refreshment stations, and support vehicles. Drinks, energy bars, and hearty snacks are available at several refreshment points along the route.
The detailed program for 2026, including start times, route maps, and refreshment points, will be published by the organizer in spring and summer 2026 on the website www.weserrunde.de. The route approval and classification will be carried out according to the rules of the German Cycling Marathon Cup.
