Bad Godesberg — the diplomatic suburb with its own identity

Bad Godesberg has been a district of Bonn since 1969, but the former spa town retains its own cultural and visual identity. With its spa facilities, villas from Bonn's capital city era, and international diplomatic heritage, it is different from Bonn's city center — more international, more park-like, almost a mini-Wiesbaden on the Rhine. One of the folk festivals that showcases the down-to-earth nature of the district is the Spring Fair on the Rigal'sche Wiese.

The Rigal'sche Wiese

The Rigal'sche Wiese is an open space in northern Bad Godesberg, not far from the train station. It is used twice a year for folk festivals — once in spring (April), once in autumn — and is Bonn's classic fairground, alongside Pützchens Markt at the southern end of the district.

10 Days of Fair Program

The spring fair runs from Good Friday weekend, April 17 to Sunday, April 26, 2026. This 10-day duration allows for two weekend highlights and a quieter weekday period in the middle:

• Fri 17.4. – Sun 19.4. — Opening weekend
• Mon 20.4. – Tue 21.4. — Weekday program, fewer visitors
• Wed 22.4. — Family Day with reduced prices
• Thu 23.4. – Fri 24.4. — Main phase with a packed program
• Sat 25.4. – Sun 26.4. — Closing weekend

• Break Dance — the classic with 360-degree spins
• Twister — a spinning ride with rotational movements
• Hip Hop Dancer — a high-flying ride with synchronized movements
• Autoscooter — a must-have at every fair
• Children's Carousels — horses, cars, small roller coasters
• Shooting galleries, grabber machines, lottery stalls

Fair Cuisine

Classic food stalls with the typical assortment:

• Bratwurst, Currywurst, French fries, potato pancakes (Reibekuchen)
• Crêpes, waffles, almonds, cotton candy

Family Day on Wednesday, April 22

An established tradition: Wednesday of the fair week becomes Family Day with reduced prices. Many showmen offer 50% discounts on rides, and food stalls have family specials. Ideal for families with small children who want to avoid the weekend crowds.

Atmosphere

The spring fair offers a classic Rhineland fair atmosphere: families, students from the nearby university, visitors from out of town, long-time Bad Godesberg residents. The soundscape of fair classics, the typical smell of roasted almonds and bratwurst, and the warm spring light over the Rhine.
