About Friedberger Volksfest

The Friedberger Volks- und Heimatfest is one of the most traditional and popular folk festivals in Swabia. Since 1928, it has captivated the region for ten days in August: It opens with a festive parade of beer wagons, vintage cars, and club delegations from Marienplatz to the festival grounds, followed by a ceremonial beer tapping. In the large Binswanger Festzelt with its beer garden, live music and Swabian delicacies create a great atmosphere, while rides and stalls line the festival grounds. The festival is supported by the Verkehrsverein Friedberg e.V. — voluntarily, and deeply rooted in the Wittelsbach town in the Aichach-Friedberg district.

Since 1928 — Swabia's Summer Classic

The Friedberger Volks- und Heimatfest is one of the leading folk festivals in Swabia. It celebrated its premiere in 1928; it was suspended during the war years and resumed afterwards. Over the decades, it has become a firm fixture in the summer calendar of the region around Augsburg.

The Opening Parade

The traditional parade marks the start: Beer wagons, vintage cars, and club delegations march from Marienplatz to the festival grounds, where the festival is ceremonially opened and the festival beer is tapped. This procession connects the historic old town with the festival area and gives the folk festival its local character.

Binswanger Festzelt and Festival Grounds

The centerpiece is the large Binswanger Festzelt with its cozy beer garden, which has been an integral part of the festival since 1996. With beer, wine, and Swabian specialties, a first-class live program ensures a lively atmosphere. Attractive rides and stalls line the area around the tent for ten festival days.

Friedberg — Wittelsbach Town in Bavarian Swabia

Friedberg is located in the district of Aichach-Friedberg in the state of Bavaria, immediately east of Augsburg. The town, founded by the Wittelsbachs, with its distinctive old town and Wittelsbach Castle, provides the setting for a festival that combines local heritage, tradition, and folk festival atmosphere.
