One of the most traditional folk festivals in Swabia
The Friedberger Volks- und Heimatfest is one of the leading folk festivals in Swabia. It celebrated its premiere in 1928; it was suspended during the war years and resumed afterwards. Over the decades, it has become a firm fixture in the summer calendar of the region around Augsburg.
The traditional parade marks the start: Beer wagons, vintage cars, and club delegations march from Marienplatz to the festival grounds, where the festival is ceremonially opened and the festival beer is tapped. This procession connects the historic old town with the festival area and gives the folk festival its local character.
The centerpiece is the large Binswanger Festzelt with its cozy beer garden, which has been an integral part of the festival since 1996. With beer, wine, and Swabian specialties, a first-class live program ensures a lively atmosphere. Attractive rides and stalls line the area around the tent for ten festival days.
Friedberg is located in the district of Aichach-Friedberg in the state of Bavaria, immediately east of Augsburg. The town, founded by the Wittelsbachs, with its distinctive old town and Wittelsbach Castle, provides the setting for a festival that combines local heritage, tradition, and folk festival atmosphere.
The 2026 dates have been confirmed by Binswanger Festzelt and Verkehrsverein Friedberg e.V. For over ten days, the festival combines local heritage and folk festival atmosphere: The opening is marked by a parade of beer wagons, vintage cars, and club delegations from Marienplatz to the festival grounds, with a ceremonial opening and beer tapping.
