40th intercultural summer festival in the park of the Oberes Schloss with the motto 'Experience Integration'
The Freundschaftsfest Siegen is an institution in the Southwestphalian university city. In 2026, it's the 40th edition – a jubilee that testifies to how early Siegen understood intercultural encounter as a municipal task. What began in 1987 as the Integrationsratsfest is now one of the largest cultural summer festivals in the Siegen-Wittgenstein district.
The venue is the Park of the Oberes Schloss high above Siegen's old town. The baroque palace complex of the Counts of Nassau-Siegen provides the backdrop for a festival that explicitly builds bridges between generations and cultures. Shady paths, old trees, a central meadow, and seating make the grounds the ideal festival area for a family-focused summer celebration.
The motto 'Experience Integration' underscores the festival's ambition: Integration here is not an administrative term, but an active experience of diversity – through music, dance, food, and conversation. The organization is the responsibility of the Committee for Equality and Integration of the University City of Siegen, formerly the Integration Council.
In the park, there are approx. 50 pavilion stands operated by associations, initiatives, and private vendors. International cuisine from West Africa, Turkey, the Balkans, Vietnam, Iran, Italy, and many other countries of origin makes the festival a culinary world tour. In addition, associations present their work, and cultural institutions provide insights into their programs.
The festival stage runs non-stop from 2 PM to 7 PM. Performances include music and dance from Siegen's diverse cultural communities, presented by cultural associations, schools, and the University of Siegen. Applications for stage performances and stands for 2026 are open until the end of March 2026 via the city portal.
