About Food Truck Heldburg

The Heldburg Town Festival with Food Truck Festival takes place every year in the town center of the Veste Heldburg. For three days, the market square transforms into an international street food mile: food trucks with specialties from all over the world, regional vendors with Thuringian cuisine, and a colorful supporting program for the whole family make the weekend a culinary highlight in the Heldburger Land. Admission is free. The town of Heldburg combines the food festival with a classic town festival — a stage with live music, a children's program, and market stalls complete the offering.

The Heldburg Food Truck Festival and Town Festival 2026 runs from May 23 to 25 over the Pentecost weekend. Three days of international street food variety, regional specialties, live music, family program, and market bustle at the market square below the Veste Heldburg.

From May 23 to 25, 2026, Heldburg's market square will transform into an international street food mile. Food trucks with specialties from around the world, regional vendors from Thuringia and Franconia, live music, and a family program will characterize the Pentecost weekend in the town under the «Franconian Light».

Saturday, May 23 — Festival Opening: Food truck market opens at noon; official opening at the market square by the town of Heldburg; first live bands in the evening
Sunday, May 24 — Main Festival Day: Food trucks open all day; family program in the afternoon with bouncy castle, carousel, and children's activities; stage program with cover bands, solo artists, dance groups; DJ sets late in the evening
Monday, May 25 — Whit Monday/Festival Finale: Morning pint at the market square; more food trucks and regional stalls; relaxed festival finale in the afternoon

Getting There

By train: Hildburghausen or Coburg station, from there bus or taxi to Heldburg. By car: A73 (Suhl–Coburg) exit Hildburghausen-Süd, then L1134 towards Heldburg. Parking is signposted on the outskirts of town.

Tip

Combine your festival visit with a trip up to the Veste Heldburg and the German Castle Museum — one of the most important castle museums in Germany. The Coburg Fortress, one of the largest castle complexes in Germany, is also only 20 kilometers away in neighboring Bavaria.

Street Food Meets Town Festival

The Heldburg Food Truck Festival combines two popular festival formats: an international food truck market with the classic German town festival. In the town center around the market square, food trucks line up — from American burgers and Mexican tacos to Asian bao buns and Vietnamese pho soups, as well as vegetarian bowls and street food variations. Regional vendors from Thuringia and Franconia (Heldburg is located directly on the Bavarian state border) park between the trucks with Thuringian bratwurst, Franconian dumplings, Heldburg beer, and regional specialties.

Diverse Supporting Program

Parallel to the street food mile, a classic town festival program runs: a stage at the market square with live music (cover bands, solo artists), DJ sets in the evening, a children's program with a bouncy castle and carousels, market stalls with arts and crafts and small snacks. The town festival also brings the Heldburg clubs on board — marksmen, sports clubs, the fire department, and the local history museum operate their own stalls and bring local roots to the international food festival.

Heldburg — Town under the «Franconian Light»

Heldburg is located in the district of Hildburghausen in the state of Thuringia, directly on the border with Bavaria. The small town with around 4,500 inhabitants is overlooked by the Veste Heldburg — one of the most beautiful hilltop castles in Germany, rebuilt in the 16th century as a magnificent Renaissance palace. The Veste, popularly known as the «Franconian Light», is the town's landmark and today houses the German Castle Museum. The town festival with the food truck festival is an opportunity to experience the Heldburger Land beyond a castle tour — a rural-charming weekend with good food, music, and a castle panorama in the background.
