Traditional festival with Wine Queen and Wine God
With its 92nd edition, the Klotten Homeland and Wine Festival is one of the most traditional and continuous wine festivals on the Middle Moselle. The festival has been held year after year since the 1930s with only a few interruptions and is deeply rooted in the village's identity. The organizer is the Heimat- und Weinfestverein Klotten (Homeland and Wine Festival Association), which manages the organization in close cooperation with local vintners, associations, and the parish community.
Klotten is located between Cochem and Treis-Karden in one of the most beautiful wine-growing landscapes of the Middle Moselle. The steep slopes around the village — especially the "Klottener Brauneberg" vineyard — produce mineral-driven Rieslings of considerable quality. The Homeland and Wine Festival is the annual grand stage on which these wines take center stage.
The highlight of the festival weekend is the traditional parade on Sunday with the Wine Queen, the "Weingott" (Wine God), floats, traditional costume groups, and music bands. The "Weingott" is a Klotten specialty: a festival figure adorned with grapevines, embodying the exuberant spirit of the festival in the vein of ancient Bacchus. The crowning of the new Klotten Wine Queen takes place on Saturday evening in the festival tent and is an emotional highlight that brings the whole village to life.
Musically, the program ranges from Rhineland party music and cover bands to classical brass music during the morning pint. Culinarily, the wines of the Klotten vintners are the centerpiece, complemented by Moselle specialties such as Schwenkbraten (grilled pork neck), Riesling wild boar ragout, and hearty festival cuisine.
The 2026 Homeland and Wine Festival in Klotten will run from Friday, July 31, to Monday, August 3. The festival grounds are centrally located in the village center. The organizer is the Heimat- und Weinfestverein Klotten (Homeland and Wine Festival Association) in cooperation with local vintners and associations.
The exact program for 2026 will be published by the organizer in the summer. The structure follows the proven key points of previous years:
