A Recklinghausen Institution Since 1987
“Zu Gast in Recklinghausen” is a culinary brand in the Ruhr area. Since 1987, the festival has annually gathered restaurateurs from Vest Recklinghausen and the surrounding area for a five-day summer festival on the central Rathausplatz (Town Hall Square) of the district town. It is one of the largest restaurateur festivals in the Ruhr area and a firm fixture in the Recklinghausen summer calendar.
2026: New Concept Under LM:V Events
For the 2026 edition, the event agency Prinz has announced a reorientation: Under the label LM:V Events, the festival will receive a fresh look. Eight selected gastronomic businesses will participate — Pizza Napoletana, Maritimo Gourmet, traditional brewery cuisine, desserts, street food. Appearing for the first time in 2026 is “Mutter Wehner” from Oer-Erkenschwick, a well-known innkeeper address from the Vest. The concept focuses on quality over quantity: curated stands, longer stays, seating, and tables in a festive atmosphere.
Program and Atmosphere
Over five days, from Wednesday, August 26 to Sunday, August 30, 2026, an entertainment program will run parallel to the culinary offerings on Rathausplatz: live music, DJ sets, regional bands, possibly a Sunday shopping event in the city center. A family-friendly atmosphere during the day, a relaxed after-work vibe with cocktails and live music in the evening. Admission is free — you only pay at the food stands.
Recklinghausen — The District Capital of the Vest
Recklinghausen, with around 110,000 inhabitants, is the district capital of the Kreis Recklinghausen (Recklinghausen District) and is located in the northern Ruhr area, at the transition to the Münsterland region. The city is primarily known for the Ruhrfestspiele, the oldest festival in the Ruhr area. “Zu Gast in Recklinghausen” complements this cultural anchor with an accessible, culinary summer format — and has become a firm meeting point for Recklinghausen residents, people from the Vest, and visitors from across the Ruhr area over decades.
