Recklinghausen Feasts Open Air — Eat, Drink, Dance

The Street Food & Music Festival is part of a nationwide street food festival tour that travels through many German city centers with the same concept: town halls or market squares are transformed into an international food truck mile with DJ sounds for a weekend. In Recklinghausen, the northern Ruhr area's medium-sized city, the event has become a firm fixture in the summer calendar — the combination of a central downtown location, diverse food offerings, and a free open-air atmosphere attracts thousands of visitors throughout the weekend.

When: July 31 to August 2, 2026

Three days of festivities at the turn of July to August:

The stage with DJ sets is active daily — standing tables in the square, seating in the surrounding area. Food trucks are open all day.

Friday 31.07., 5:00 PM — DJ Stock

Opening set with International House Sounds. DJ Stock is a regular DJ on the Streetfood Tour and brings a mix of tropical house, deep house, and tech house — ideal for the opening evening crowd looking to relax after the work week.

Saturday 01.08., 3:00 PM — Tony Trichter

Party/Charts/Hits: Tony Trichter caters to broad tastes with charts, pop hits, schlager, and party music. Main visitor day, most crowded atmosphere on Rathausplatz.

Sunday 02.08., 1:00 PM — Luc Angenehm

House/Party: Luc Angenehm rounds off the weekend with Sunday afternoon house music. Family-friendly atmosphere — Sunday is traditionally family day with children and a relaxed brunch atmosphere.

Food Trucks — from Loukou to Juicy Burger

The food truck selection is an international mix. Here's an excerpt of the vendors:

• Loukou: Greek-Cypriot specialties
• Poffertjes: Dutch mini pancakes with sugar, caramel, cream
• Meatfreaks: BBQ and pulled pork
• Loslocos Mexicano: Tacos, burritos, quesadillas
• Juicy Burger: Burger specialties
• Asian Bao buns and curries
• Indian specialties
• Sweet stalls: crêpes, candied almonds, ice cream
• Vegetarian and vegan options at most trucks

Payment is made directly at the truck — prices are usually between €8 and €16 for a main course.

Recklinghausen — the Festival City

Recklinghausen is the district capital of the Recklinghausen district and, with around 110,000 inhabitants, the northernmost major city in the Ruhr area. Known for the Ruhrfestspiele Recklinghausen (one of Germany's oldest theater festivals, annually in May/June), the Festspielhaus Recklinghausen, and the Tierpark Recklinghausen. In the context of the Ruhr area, Recklinghausen is more of a cultural city — an identity that is complemented by events like the street food festival.

Getting There and Tips

Recklinghausen Hbf train station: 5 min walk to Rathausplatz. Regional and S-Bahn trains from all over the Ruhr area. By car: A2 or A43, parking garages in the city center. Tip: Come during the day, then the food truck queues are shorter; stay in the evening for DJ sounds and cocktails. Sunday is family-friendly — children welcome.
