Irish and Celtic Folk in the historic Wollkaemmerei-Quartier
The former Bremer Wollkämmerei (BWK) in Blumenthal was once one of the largest of its kind in Europe. Today, the Kämmerei-Quartier, with its impressive Wilhelminian-era brick architecture, is a vibrant place – and once a year, it becomes the stage for Folk im Kämmerei-Quartier. In front of the monumental industrial backdrop, bands play Irish and Celtic folk, danceable and rousing, over three days from Friday to Sunday. It's a festival with hearty sounds, traditional melodies, and plenty of pub atmosphere.
The festival kicks off on Friday evening, followed by packed program days on Saturday and Sunday with changing bands – in past years, for example, Stew n Haggis, One More Pint, La Kejoca, or Tales of Nebelheym. Parallel to this, the Blumenthaler MarktTach takes place: Around 45 dedicated exhibitors present handmade art, creative design, floristry, fashion, and beautiful items for home and garden. From Saturday 4 PM to 7 PM and Sunday 12 PM to 5:30 PM, live music combines with an atmospheric market.
The weekend is organized by the Bürgerstiftung Blumenthal together with Rainer Wendelken from the former Folk im Park, whose tradition lives on here. Since 2024, the folk festival and MarktTach have been held together in the Kämmerei-Quartier. Admission is free, allowing families, neighbors, and folk fans from all over Bremen's north to come together – a community festival with cultural appeal.
Blumenthal and its Wollkämmerei represent a piece of Hanseatic industrial history in the state of Bremen. The festival makes this heritage tangible, filling the historic quarter at the mouth of the Weser with music, crafts, and encounters – easily accessible from Bremen's north by bus and train.
From Friday, August 21, to Sunday, August 23, 2026, the Kämmerei-Quartier of the former Bremer Wollkämmerei in Bremen-Blumenthal will once again become a festival stage for Folk im Kämmerei-Quartier. Against a monumental Wilhelminian-era brick backdrop, bands will play Irish and Celtic folk for three days – danceable and rousing, with plenty of pub atmosphere. Parallel to this, the Blumenthaler MarktTach will feature around 45 exhibitors offering handmade art, creative design, floristry, fashion, and beautiful items for home and garden. The organizers are the Bürgerstiftung Blumenthal together with Rainer Wendelken, continuing the tradition of Folk im Park. Admission is free on all three days.
The complete band program for 2026 with set times will be announced by the Bürgerstiftung Blumenthal shortly before the festival on folkimpark-bremen.de – previous editions featured artists such as Stew n Haggis, One More Pint, La Kejoca, Tales of Nebelheym, Salt N Tales, Paddy Goes To Holyhead, and Gunnar Wiegand.
