Concert project by Ensemble Zwischenakt in the Boiler House of the Peenemünde Power Plant
Peenemünde, at the northern tip of the island of Usedom in the Vorpommern-Greifswald district, is one of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern's most historic sites. During World War II, the first large rockets were developed here—using forced labor. The Historical-Technical Museum Peenemünde, located in the former power plant, is dedicated to processing this history. The concert project »Fluchtgeschwindigkeiten« makes this place a resonance chamber for music and memory.
The project is supported by Ensemble Zwischenakt, led by baritone Burkhard von Puttkamer, along with pianists Alina Pronina, Katharina Landl, and Giedre Lutz. The ensemble specializes in performing classical vocal and chamber music in unusual, often industrial locations, thereby rediscovering historical spaces through sound.
»Fluchtgeschwindigkeiten« is not intended as an ordinary concert, but as an artistic engagement with the past. The combination of romantic art songs, politically charged Eisler settings, and original contemporary witness voices transforms the boiler house into a place of contemplation. The title alludes to rocket technology as well as the idea of fleeing a troubled history.
The project is designed as a concert series: The Historical-Technical Museum Peenemünde invites you to »Fluchtgeschwindigkeiten« several times a year. Three dates are scheduled for 2026—in May and September. Each concert begins at 4:00 PM in the Peenemünde Power Plant.
In 2026, the Historical-Technical Museum Peenemünde continues the »Fluchtgeschwindigkeiten« concert series. Ensemble Zwischenakt will perform three times at the Peenemünde Power Plant: on May 7, May 31, and September 16, 2026, each at 4:00 PM.
Baritone Burkhard von Puttkamer and pianists Alina Pronina, Katharina Landl, and Giedre Lutz will musically explore the history of the Peenemünde test facilities. The program includes songs by Schubert, Schumann, and Eisler, supplemented by sound documents with statements from contemporary witnesses. The performance venue is the 28-meter-high boiler house of the historic power plant, whose acoustics provide a unique soundscape for the concerts.
All concerts with Ensemble Zwischenakt: Burkhard von Puttkamer (baritone), Alina Pronina, Katharina Landl, and Giedre Lutz (piano). Songs by Schubert, Schumann, and Eisler, as well as contemporary witness sound documents.
