Festival Day in Honor of Saint Florian
Saint Florian has been the patron saint of fire brigades for centuries. In his honor, the fire brigades of the Freising district celebrate Florianstag every year – a District Fire Brigade Day that brings together the volunteer brigades from the entire district in the cathedral city.
Procession Through Freising
The highlight is the procession: In the morning, the firefighters assemble in General-von-Nagel-Straße and march together through the city center of Freising to the Cathedral. The march in uniform through the city is an impressive display of solidarity and volunteer commitment.
High Mass in Freising Cathedral
A solemn high mass to celebrate the patron saint's day is held in Freising Cathedral of St. Maria and St. Korbinian. Afterwards, the procession returns together to the starting point. A vehicle blessing is also an integral part of the day.
Community of the Brigades
Florianstag is more than just a church festival: it strengthens the sense of community among the fire brigades of the Freising district and makes the volunteer commitment of the many brigades publicly visible.
Florianstag Freising — edition 2026
On Sunday, May 3, 2026, the fire brigades of the Freising district will celebrate their joint Florianstag in the cathedral city. The organizer is the Freising District Fire Brigade Association.
The brigades will assemble in the morning in General-von-Nagel-Straße and march together through the city center to Freising Cathedral, where a high mass will be celebrated for the feast day of Saint Florian. Afterwards, the procession will return together to the starting point.

Getting There
Freising is located north of Munich, conveniently close to Munich Airport. Take the S-Bahn (S1) to Freising; the Cathedral is within walking distance of the city center.
