Traditional Floriansfest of the Volunteer Fire Brigade in the Main Franconian wine village of Erlabrunn
Saint Florian has been the patron saint of firefighters since the Middle Ages. His feast day (May 4th) is celebrated in many Bavarian communities with a Floriansfest – an event that combines church tradition, club life, and village sociability. In Erlabrunn, a small Main Franconian wine village in the Würzburg district, the Freiwillige Feuerwehr Erlabrunn (Volunteer Fire Brigade Erlabrunn) organizes this festival.
The venue is the Feuerwehrhaus Erlabrunn (Erlabrunn Fire Station), which is transformed into a festival ground with catering, a stage, and seating for the festival weekend. The FFW typically invites guests to a festive evening with live music or a DJ on Saturday, a festive church service on Sunday, and a 'Frühschoppen' (morning pint) with lunch. This follows the classic pattern of Main Franconian club festivals.
Erlabrunn is located on the Main River, about 12 kilometers northwest of Würzburg, in the Würzburg district. With its location on the Main and its vineyards, it is one of the classic Main Franconian wine villages. Club life is also strongly represented here: the fire brigade, sports club, carnival club, and winegrowers' cooperative shape the annual calendar. The proceeds from events like the Floriansfest go towards the volunteer work of the clubs.
As with many Main Franconian club festivals, Franconian wines are at the center – Silvaner, Müller-Thurgau, Bacchus from the vineyards around Erlabrunn. Accompanying these are classic Franconian dishes such as Bratwürste (sausages), Krautsalat (cabbage salad), Schäuferla (pork shoulder), or pizza slices from a wood-fired oven, supplemented by sweet delicacies and coffee. A true Main Franconian culinary experience in a village atmosphere.
The Floriansfest is a classic club festival with a family character – not a mass event, but a meeting point for the entire community. Visitors from outside the region who attend the event experience the Maintal valley in its authentic, traditional form: wine, warmth, and hospitality.
The 2026 edition of the Floriansfest will be held on Saturday, June 6th, and Sunday, June 7th, 2026, at the Erlabrunn fire station. The organizer is the Freiwillige Feuerwehr Erlabrunn.
On the program: a festive evening with live music on Saturday, a festive church service in honor of Saint Florian, and a 'Frühschoppen' on Sunday, along with all-day catering with Franconian wines, specialties, and a coffee and cake buffet. The FFW thus invites residents and guests of the Maintal valley to a typical Main Franconian weekend festival.
Exact schedule and artist names will be communicated by the FFW Erlabrunn before the festival.
