Village and club festival of ASV Forelle 1971 in the Lower Franconian Maßbachgrund
The Fischfest Poppenlauer is the annual club festival of the ASV Forelle 1971 e.V., the angling club of Poppenlauer – one of the three districts of the market town Maßbach in the Lower Franconian district of Bad Kissingen. ASV Forelle manages its own fishing waters in the Maßbachgrund (stream, pond, small reservoir), and the Fischfest is the highlight of the club's year – a fixed date in the village calendar since the club was founded in 1971.
The culinary concept is unmistakable: freshly caught fish grilled on-site from the club waters. On the charcoal skewer grill, trout, carp fillets, and – as a specialty – smoked char sizzle. The trout are traditionally grilled whole on skewers and served with bread. Club anglers take care of the preparation, provide information about the waters, and answer questions about fish species and angling.
In addition, the classic club festival program runs in the festival tent: Franconian home-style cuisine (sausages, Schäuferla, pretzels), freshly tapped Franconian beer, homemade cake in the afternoon. Live music from a Franconian party band or DJ provides the atmosphere in the evening. The eve of the festival (in 2026 Saturday, April 25th) is for setup and preparation with the first beer service.
Poppenlauer, with around 1,500 inhabitants, is the largest district of Maßbach. The village is located in the Haßbergen – a gently rolling low mountain range in Lower Franconia between Würzburg and Coburg. The ASV Forelle has around 100 members, maintains several stream sections and a club pond, and is one of the most active clubs in the village. The Fischfest is one of the few club festivals in the region that uses self-caught fish – most other fish festivals source their goods from wholesalers.
Maßbach and its surroundings are located in the Hassbergland, a touristically little-known but scenically attractive region in Lower Franconia. The Hassberge, with their forests, small stream valleys, and old villages, form a peaceful backdrop for hiking and cycling tours. The market town of Maßbach is the administrative seat, and the district of Poppenlauer contributes to the region's identity with its club festival.
The Fischfest Poppenlauer 2026 takes place on Sunday, April 26, 2026, at the festival grounds in Poppenlauer (district of Maßbach). Setup starts on Saturday, April 25th, from 9 a.m., with the first beer service and preparation of the catering.
On the festival Sunday itself, the skewer grill starts operating in the late morning, and the festival tent will provide visitors with Franconian specialties, with Franconian beer freshly tapped. The organizer is ASV Forelle 1971 e.V., which manages its own club waters in the Maßbachgrund.
Exact times and live music program will be published before the festival via the market town of Maßbach here.
