Filmnächte Dortmund — Open-Air with Harbour Scenery
The Filmnächte Dortmund will run for its sixth season in 2026 — and is moving to a new location. The organiser team Neovaude will be using the former Knauf-Interfer-Halle in Speicherstraße at Dortmund Harbour from early July to early September: an industrial hangar that combines an open-air character with covered safety.
600 Seats, up to 3,000 Concert Places
The hall is designed for two usage profiles:
- Cinema Mode: around 600 seats for an open-air-like atmosphere — deckchairs, bistro tables, and regular rows
- Concert Mode: up to 3,000 standing places for concerts and special events
Films at a Flat Rate
All films are shown at a uniform price of €10 per screening. This clearly positions the festival as a low-threshold summer alternative to multiplex cinemas. The programme typically ranges from current arthouse films and classics to family films on weekends. Concerts in concert mode have their own ticket prices.
Dortmund Harbour — From Industrial to Cultural Location
The Dortmund Harbour is the largest canal port in Europe and was the industrial heart of the city for decades. Since the district's transformation, cultural sites, restaurants, breweries, and event halls have been developing along Speicherstraße. The Filmnächte "Kino am Hafen" are part of this change — a classic brownfield-to-culture project, typical for the Ruhr area (North Rhine-Westphalia).
Partner DSW21 — the Municipal Transport Giant
The main sponsor of Filmnächte is DSW21 — the Dortmund municipal utility company and public transport operator. This constellation is no coincidence: the city supports the cultural reuse of industrial areas through sponsorship from transport companies.
Filmnächte Festival in Germany
The Filmnächte series has locations in several German cities — including Dortmund, Dresden, Heilbronn, Mannheim, and others. The concept of open-air films in a special atmosphere has been running in Germany since the 1990s and has a loyal regular clientele.
