FichtelUltra
Trail running out of friendship in the Fichtelgebirge
2026
About FichtelUltra
FichtelUltra — edition 2026
FichtelUltra '26 will be the third edition of the private trail running project in the Upper Franconian Fichtelgebirge. The first two editions (Fun Run 2024 and Fun Run 2 in 2025) established the format of a manageable trail run with a community character and family support.
As of Spring 2026, only the date is confirmed on the official page — the distance, exact route, start and finish points, as well as the number of participants, will be published by the organizer in the summer of 2026. Those who wish to participate should follow the blog and the Instagram account and inquire early.

Character

Born out of friendship
FichtelUltra is not a classic commercial festival, but a private trail running initiative in the Fichtelgebirge — the Upper Franconian low mountain range between Bayreuth, Marktredwitz, and the Czech border. On the website, the organizers describe their project as "trail running out of friendship, inspired by the Fichtelgebirge, bringing together people who love being outdoors, dream big, and run far".
Previous Editions
- 2024 — Fun Run: first edition, "our idea becomes reality"
- 2025 — Fun Run 2: over 40 participants on an intensive trail run in the Fichtelgebirge with community spirit, perfect autumn weather, and family support
- FKT Attempts: In parallel, the organizers are pursuing their own projects, such as the 12-summit tour (12GT) with a sub-6-hour goal
- UTMB Support 2023: The team was active as crew in a 170 km trail race in the Alps
The Fichtelgebirge as a Playground
The Fichtelgebirge is one of the highest low mountain ranges in Bavaria — with the Schneeberg (1051 m) as its highest point — and offers an unusually dense trail infrastructure. Hiking trails, forest paths, technical trail sections, and alpine altitude meters make the region an ideal training environment for ultra distances. The landscape is characterized by spruce forests, granite rocks, and unique viewpoints such as the Ochsenkopf, Nußhardt, and Hohen Matzen.
Character of the Event
FichtelUltra deliberately avoids mass starts, focusing instead on a fun run character with manageable participant numbers, a sense of community, and family support. Those who want to participate should get in touch via the website or Instagram (@fichtelultra).
