Bohemian-Moravian Brass Music Festival in the Upper Palatinate
The Festival of Brass Music in Bad Neualbenreuth is one of the most renowned brass music events in the Oberpfälzer Wald (Upper Palatinate Forest). Since its founding in 2011, the organizer has been the Musikverein Ernestgrün e.V. from the district of the same name in Bad Neualbenreuth. The focus is on Bohemian-Moravian brass music – the sound that has shaped the border region between Bavaria and the Czech Republic for centuries and has become a distinct identity in the region.
At each edition, top ensembles from Germany, Austria, and Slovakia perform. In 2025, eight ensembles were booked over two festival days (Onetz reported, the festival tent was sold out months in advance). In 2024, too, the festival attracted top Bohemian-Moravian acts. The Musikverein Ernestgrün e.V. itself – the Blaskapelle Ernestgrün – performs as the host ensemble, along with friendly associations from the Egerland region.
The venue is the festival grounds on Tirschenreuther Straße in Bad Neualbenreuth, a state-recognized spa town with the Sibyllenbad thermal baths in the Tirschenreuth district. In recent editions, the Friday evening opening (dress rehearsal by Blaskapelle Ernestgrün from 7 PM, followed by the Grecher Band from 9 PM) and the Saturday evening main festival (from 3 PM to 11 PM) featured the program. With seven to eight ensembles, concert and dance pieces alternate. Children under 12 years of age accompanied by an adult receive free admission.
The region around Bad Neualbenreuth – the historic Egerland on the Bavarian-Czech border – is one of the most important homelands of Bohemian-Moravian brass music. On the Czech side lies the nearby spa town of Eger (Cheb); the region was bilingual for centuries and today serves as a bridge between Bavarian and Czech brass music traditions. The Festival of Brass Music preserves and celebrates this shared world of sound.
Following the 14th edition in 2025, which was already sold out, the 15th edition of the Festival of Brass Music in 2026 in Bad Neualbenreuth is announced as a continuation of the annual tradition. Sources such as Bayern Tourismus (veranstaltungen.erlebe.bayern), beiunsdaheim.de, and Oberpfalz.de list the festival as an annual spring event by the Musikverein Ernestgrün.
As in previous editions, top ensembles from Germany, Austria, and Slovakia will be booked. The exact program announcement – festival Saturday, preview evening with the dress rehearsal of Blaskapelle Ernestgrün, daily schedule with concert performances from 3 PM to 11 PM – will be made by the association a few months in advance. Due to the consistent sell-outs in previous years, it is advisable to monitor the start of ticket sales early.
The exact date and lineup for 2026 will be published by Musikverein Ernestgrün e.V. a few months before the festival on mv-ernestgruen.de and via okticket.de.
Tickets exclusively via okticket.de and selected ticket outlets (fees apply). Specific prices will be published with the program announcement. Children under 12 years of age accompanied by an adult are free.
