Spring wine festival in Kallstadt with 100 wines from Kallstadt's vineyards — tasting festival on the central Platz der 100 Weine
Kallstadt is one of the Palatinate wine villages that has gained worldwide attention for its top-class Riesling — the Kallstadter Saumagen vineyard site appears in wine books, sommelier training courses, and on the menus of Michelin-starred restaurants worldwide. At the same time, Kallstadt has preserved its Palatinate village character: people know each other here, celebrate together, and the top Rieslings are a piece of home, not just a status symbol.
The Festival of 100 Wines impressively brings these two sides — top class and popular appeal — together. On the central Platz der 100 Weine on the Weinstraße, Kallstadt's vintners and the Kallstadt wine cooperative present 100 selected wines from the village's vineyard sites. This makes the entire stylistic spectrum of Kallstadt tangible in one weekend — an opportunity that is rarely found elsewhere.
Kallstadt has several important vineyard sites: the famous Saumagen, with its calcareous subsoil, produces mineral, long-lasting Rieslings; Steinacker and Annaberg are other classic sites with their own stylistic characteristics; the Burgundy varieties — Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir — find their home on the warmer slopes. The Festival of 100 Wines allows for a direct comparison of all these sites.
The last weekend of April coincides with a special phase of the Palatinate spring: the almond blossom is usually over, the vines are budding, the sun is getting warmer, the days are getting longer. At long tables on the Platz der 100 Weine, regulars and newcomers strike up conversations, complemented by Palatinate specialties — Saumagen, of course, being the star — and live music in the evening.
The 2026 edition continues the proven format: central tasting at the Platz der 100 Weine, focus on the diversity of Kallstadt's vineyard sites with an emphasis on the top site Kallstadter Saumagen. The exact program for 2026 will be published by the organizer in the spring.
The structure follows the proven cornerstones of previous years: opening on Saturday afternoon, full operation on Saturday and Sunday, evening music programs.
