About Karneval Gamlen

The Gamlen Carnival procession is part of the vibrant carnival tradition of the Kaisersesch municipality in the Hunsrück region, above the Mosel river. On Carnival Sunday at 3:11 PM, the parade with floats, walking groups, carnival clubs, and music bands sets off and winds its way through the village's main street. Unlike the Mosel carnival parades, Gamlen's special atmosphere lies in its typical Hunsrück conviviality: carnival-goers from the surrounding villages of Kaisersesch, Forst, Eppenberg-Wattenbach, and Düngenheim participate in the procession, bringing the whole valley into a festive mood. After the parade, the village continues to celebrate in the pubs and the community hall late into the night.

The Kaisersesch municipality is located in the Hunsrück region above the Mosel river and comprises several small villages, each cherishing its own festival culture. Carnival has a long tradition in this region, manifested in a variety of galas, balls, and parades. The Gamlen Carnival procession is one of the smaller, but particularly atmospheric and intimate carnival parades in the Kaisersesch municipality.

Gamlen is a typical Hunsrück village with a manageable population but a lively club scene. The local carnival club organizes the parade annually on Carnival Sunday, starting punctually at 3:11 PM. The choice of a later start time (compared to the 2:11 PM of the Mosel parades) allows carnival-goers and spectators to attend a parade in a Mosel village first and then visit the parade in Gamlen on the same day — a logistical arrangement that has been maintained in the Hunsrück for decades.

Floats, walking groups, carnival clubs, marching bands, and music bands from Gamlen and neighboring towns parade through the main street. The floats humorously and self-ironically address local topics, political events, and social phenomena. Majorettes and small show groups provide additional entertainment along the route.

After the parade, the festive activities move to the local pubs and the community hall. With Hunsrück specialties — Schwenkbraten (grilled pork neck), Bratwurst (sausage), hearty festive cuisine — and Mosel wine, beer, or Hunsrück specialties, the celebration continues late into the night. Those who wish to experience the rural carnival feeling beyond the large Mosel parades will find the perfect setting in Gamlen.
