The Festival of 1000 Lanterns in Augustfehn is one of the oldest folk festivals in the Ammerland district and has been celebrated continuously since 1950. The name refers to the countless colorful lanterns that are hung in the streets of the Augustfehn district for the festival days — a sea of lights that bathes the entire town in a special atmosphere.

2026 Edition — Four Days of Festival Program

The 2026 edition runs from Friday, July 24th, to Monday, July 27th, 2026. The venue is the Eisenhüttenplatz and Bahnhofstraße in the Augustfehn district. The organizer is Fest der 1000 Laternen e.V., which brings the traditional event to life year after year on a voluntary basis.

Program Highlights

• Friday: Parade with over 40 colorfully decorated floats through Augustfehn — the visual centerpiece of the festival
• Saturday: Grand fireworks display over the town
• Sunday: Legendary boat race in the Augustfehn Canal — homemade boats, lots of water, more fun
