Oldest Federweißen festival in the region with six wine pavilions exclusively featuring Landau vintners and over 30 food stalls
Federweißen festivals are a traditional part of the autumn calendar in the Palatinate and Rhineland, but the Landau Federweißen festival is among the oldest and most deeply rooted. It particularly marks the transition from the grape harvest season to autumn: Federweiße – the young wine still in fermentation – is the focus and can be tasted just a few days after the harvest.
The Rathausplatz in the center of Landau, with its historic architecture and central location, provides the fitting setting. The pavilions will be set up in a circle on the square; the center will remain free as an open festival area.
A key feature is the strict limitation to Landau vintners. The six wine pavilions exclusively serve wines and Federweißen from Landau's town villages and the city center. Thus, the festival also serves as a showcase for Landau's winemaking community.
More than 30 food and specialty stalls line the area around the wine pavilions. Zwiebelkuchen, Flammkuchen, Dampfnudeln, and Saumagen represent Palatinate festival cuisine, while roasted chestnuts and mulled wine contribute to the autumnal atmosphere. International stalls complement the offerings.
On Thursday, October 15th, Mayor Lukas Hartmann will open the festival at 8 PM with the crowning of the new Wine Queen. This ceremony is a significant social event in Landau's festival calendar and officially marks the beginning of the new wine year in the city.
On Sunday, October 18th, the festival concludes with a Sunday shopping event (1 PM to 6 PM): Landau's city center opens its shops, combining the shopping experience with the festival atmosphere on the Rathausplatz.
The wine pavilions are arranged in a circle on the Rathausplatz. Federweißer, Riesling, Burgundy, and the fresh seasonal wine from Landau vintners flow from the pavilions. Palatinate specialties are available at the food stalls.
