Colourful family afternoon in Malchin's city park
Malchin is situated on the western shore of Lake Kummerow, nestled in the rolling landscape of Mecklenburg Switzerland in the Mecklenburg Lake District. The city park, with its old trees, provides a particularly beautiful backdrop in early summer β shade under mighty linden and oak trees, paths through blooming flowerbeds, and a central square where clubs and families gather.
The Park Festival is explicitly designed as an intergenerational family afternoon. Local music groups perform in the park, clubs present themselves at stalls, children can find hands-on activities, and visitors can enjoy bratwurst, coffee, cake, and drinks at several food stalls. The festival runs in the late afternoon and evening, making it a relaxed start to the summer.
The festival is organised by the Amt Malchin am Kummerower See, which encompasses several municipalities and smaller villages in the region. The festival is one of the traditional opening events for the Mecklenburg summer β not a major event, but a reliable meeting point for the town's community.
Visitors to the Park Festival might want to combine their stay with a walk along Lake Kummerow or a tour through the hilly Mecklenburg Switzerland. Schlitz Castle, Basedow Castle, and the Mecklenburg Switzerland and Lake Kummerow Nature Park are in the immediate vicinity.
By train from Berlin or Rostock to Malchin station, or by car via the B104 / B194. The city park is within walking distance of the station.
