Premiere in the South district — regional products and live music on Thursday evenings
With the Feierabendmarkt in the South district, a new format will open in Remscheid's event calendar on Thursday, July 9, 2026, starting at 5 PM — the premiere on Johann-Vaillant-Platz, a central square in the southern part of the city. The after-work format by Stadtmarketing Remscheid is part of a series of seven Feierabendmärkte in 2026, spread across Remscheid's districts.
The Feierabendmarkt is an afternoon/evening weekly market held after work, offering more than just shopping: regional products, culinary specialties, live music, and a children's program combine to create a mini-neighborhood festival. Guests buy regional food, meet neighbors, listen to concerts, and relax with a drink — a social format between a market and a summer festival. Free admission.
The premiere on Johann-Vaillant-Platz is part of a strategy to distribute the Feierabendmärkte across all four of Remscheid's districts:
The season kicks off on Thursday, June 11, 2026, in Lennep. Six more dates until August 2026 spread the activity across the entire city area.

Johann-Vaillant-Platz is named after Johann Vaillant (1851–1920), the founder of the heating technology group Vaillant. The company remains the most important industrial employer in Remscheid's South district to this day. The square serves as the neighborhood's focal point and is ideal for an urban market format.
Remscheid, with just under 110,000 inhabitants, is one of the three major cities in the Bergisches Städtedreieck (Bergisches Triangle) (with Wuppertal and Solingen). The city is a traditional center for the tool and heating industry and is topographically part of the Bergisches Land region in North Rhine-Westphalia. The Feierabendmärkte are part of the city's strategy to revitalize the districts and strengthen the sense of community in the neighborhoods.
