1.6 km of flea market, live music and 30,000 visitors — the largest flea market in the Bergisches Land region
The Pfingsttrödel on Hindenburgstraße has been an integral part of the Pentecost weekend in Remscheid since 1987 — and one of the largest flea markets in the Bergisches Land region. The 39th edition will take place from May 24th to 25th, 2026 (Pentecost Sunday and Monday). On 1.6 km of Hindenburgstraße, around 200 dealers present their treasures — mostly private individuals clearing out their cellars or passing on family heirlooms.
Remscheid is located in the Bergisches Land, a hilly region in the east of North Rhine-Westphalia, southeast of Wuppertal. The city was traditionally a center of the tool and steel industry ("City of Tools"). Today, it is a small major city with about 110,000 inhabitants — and Hindenburgstraße is its main shopping street in the old town. At Pentecost, it transforms into a flea market mile.
The scale is part of the charm: around 30,000 visitors come over the two days. At 200 stalls, you'll find:
The "1.6 km" length means you'll need time. Even brisk visitors will barely cover the distance in under 2-3 hours.
Parallel to the main market, a children's flea market takes place in the schoolyard of the Gertrud-Bäumer-Gymnasium — a lovely tradition where children can sell their own toys. An ideal introductory event for young flea market enthusiasts.
On the IG-Hindenburgstraße stage, various local bands and solo artists perform throughout the weekend. The gastronomy offers Bergisches Land classics — from bratwurst and potato pancakes to cold drinks. It creates a festival atmosphere that expands the pure flea market into a neighborhood experience.
Hindenburgstraße is centrally located in Remscheid city center — about a 15-minute walk from the main train station. If you come by car: many city center parking garages are freely available on the Pentecost weekend. Best arrival: Pentecost Sunday from 9:30 AM — the first treasures will still be available then. Pentecost Monday is quieter, but the selection is reduced.
