Sociable family festival of the shooting club in Bremerhaven-Lehe
While the Schützenfest (shooting festival) upholds traditional ceremony, the Familienfest of the Schützen Verein Lehe showcases the club's cheerful, family-friendly side. The Schützenverein Lehe has existed since the mid-19th century, making it one of the most traditional clubs in the state of Bremen. Since the first Familienfest on August 28, 2002 — opened by chairman Wolfgang Liedl shortly after 2 p.m. in glorious weather — the club has invited guests every summer to its shooting range on Siebenbergensweg in Bremerhaven-Lehe. The focus is on the children: at stations with light rifles, archery at artistic target boards, blowpipes at balloon walls, straw shooting, as well as can tossing, mouse trap, and sack races, they can playfully try their skills — proof that shooting sports today offer variety and are associated with fun for children and young people.
For culinary delights, there's a cake buffet with coffee, plus popcorn, cotton candy, and cool drinks. In the late afternoon, starting around 5 p.m., a communal barbecue takes place — a sociable conclusion that brings generations together. The first festival in 2002 already attracted numerous children and adults; since then, the Familienfest has become a fixed date in the club's calendar.
Lehe is one of the oldest and liveliest districts of the port city of Bremerhaven: as early as 1273/78, the place was first documented in the income register of the Counts of Oldenburg as Lee; after joining the Free Hanseatic City of Bremen in 1947, Lehe became a district of Bremerhaven. With its Familienfest, the traditional shooting club consciously opens up to the neighborhood and families, making club life tangible — down-to-earth, warm, and with lots of fun for the little ones. An authentic district festival that embodies the Hanseatic spirit of community in the state of Bremen.
