The Zoigl Town Windischeschenbach
Windischeschenbach in the northern Oberpfalz is considered the capital of Zoigl – that rustic, communally brewed beer served in traditional Zoiglstuben (Zoigl taverns), recognizable by the six-pointed Zoigl star above the door. The Kommunbrauhaus in the Neuhaus district is the heart of this unique brewing tradition.
»Das Fest«
The town's big civic festival has deliberately been called simply »Das Fest« since 2012. It traditionally takes place on the first Saturday in July – a date that has grown over many years. Around 40 clubs from Windischeschenbach participate, along with gastronomy and the town.
Festival Mile and Two Stages
The festival mile stretches along the main street, complemented by the Kommunbrauhaus and the »Zoigleck«. Live music plays on two stages, and the clubs provide food and, of course, Windischeschenbach Zoigl.
Parade and Tapping Ceremony
»Das Fest« opens with a parade from the town hall around 4:00 PM, where the mayor taps the Zoigl barrel – the official start signal for the festival.
The Duck Race
A special highlight is the duck race around 7:00 PM: hundreds of rubber ducks float down the Stadtbach – fun for young and old and an integral part of the festival.

Getting There
Windischeschenbach is located in the Neustadt an der Waldnaab district in the northern Oberpfalz, accessible via the A93 (Windischeschenbach exit) and by train on the Weiden–Marktredwitz line. The festival mile is located along the main street in the center.

»Das Fest« is freely accessible. Food and drinks at the club stands, including the Windischeschenbach Zoigl, are paid for separately.
Tip
The most atmospheric moment is the parade from the town hall with the tapping ceremony around 4 PM; the duck race in the Stadtbach around 7 PM is fun for the whole family. If you want to try the real Zoigl, this is the place to be.
