Reuth bei Erbendorf in the Upper Palatinate
Reuth bei Erbendorf is a small community in the Tirschenreuth district in the Northern Upper Palatinate, with around 1100 inhabitants on 17 km². The community belongs to the Krummennaab administrative district and is located near Erbendorf on the edge of the Steinwald forest. The Reuth Volunteer Fire Brigade is one of the central club institutions of the community and will be hosting its flag consecration in 2026 – a major event in club life.
What is a Flag Consecration?
The flag consecration is an old Bavarian tradition: the new or restored club flag is consecrated by the local pastor during a solemn festival service. This is followed by a parade with friendly fire brigades and clubs from the Tirschenreuth district, who will bring their own flags. A specially appointed patron club assumes patronage. The flag consecration is considered the most important ceremonial act in the life of a fire brigade and is often prepared for years.

Typical accompanying events include an eve of the festival with a beer tapping, a festival Sunday with a parade and Frühschoppen (morning pint), and numerous performances by friendly music bands.
Community Festival for the Entire Region
A flag consecration is not just a fire brigade festival, but a community festival for the entire region. All clubs, neighboring fire brigades, and the parish community support the festival. It is a rare event – most fire brigades consecrate their flag only every few decades – and its significance for the village community is accordingly great.
