Practical information — Faasenacht Rentrisch
Getting There
Rentrisch is located between St. Ingbert and Saarbrücken-Scheidt. Take the S-Bahn S1 to St. Ingbert, then continue with bus 137. By car, take the A6 (exit St. Ingbert-Mitte). On Rosenmontag, road closures around the parade route are to be expected — it's best to use Park-and-Walk from St. Ingbert station.
Admission
Street parade is free. The open-air party afterwards is also freely accessible, with drinks and snacks at usual club prices.
Tip
Wear warm, bright clothing (February in the Saarland can be icy) and arrive early — the best spots along Heinestraße and in front of the parish church are occupied from 1:30 PM.
Saarland Karneval on a Small Scale
Rentrisch has only a few thousand inhabitants and is one of eight districts of St. Ingbert in the Saarpfalz district. Nevertheless, every year on Rosenmontag, the town organizes one of the most charming Faasenacht parades in the Saarland. Responsible for this is the Rentrischer Carnevalsverein „Die Holzhauer" e.V. (RCV), which bears the name of an old professional tradition — Rentrisch once thrived on the timber trade.
Faasenacht Instead of Karneval
In the Saarland, Karneval is called „Faasenacht" — a unique spelling that distinguishes it from the Rhenish Karneval and the Palatinate Fastnacht. Saarland's Faasenacht is village-oriented, club-based, and sees itself as a civic celebration. The highlight of every season is the Rosenmontag parade, organized independently in each district.
Over 150 Participants on One Kilometer
The Holzhauer know how to create a great atmosphere with modest means: guard girls, dance groups, the Rentrisch music club, private groups, decorated vehicles, and a float with the prince and princess form the procession. Over 150 people participate in costume every year — a respectable number for the size of the village.
From the Procession to the Open-Air Party
Assembly begins at 1:00 PM in Heinestraße, with the parade starting promptly at 2:11 PM — the time is due to the jester's code. The route leads past the parish church and cemetery, through Waldstraße, Sebastian-Kurtz-Straße, past the fire station, and ends at the community centre on Rentrischer Weg. An open-air Faasenacht with hot and cold drinks, small snacks, and live music in the cultural centre starts there.
Embedded in the St. Ingbert Session Plan
The Rentrisch parade is part of a dense St. Ingbert Faasenacht programme: the storming of the town hall to open the festivities, parades in Hassel, St. Ingbert Mitte, and Oberwürzbach, as well as sessions of the affiliated clubs. Anyone who wants to experience Faasenacht in Saarpfalz beyond the big cities will find Rentrisch to be the perfect spot.
