Europe's largest gospel festival with around 5,000 singers — three days of “Colour the World” in Stuttgart
The European Gospelfestival is Europe's largest gospel festival and takes place every few years in a different European city. In 2026, Stuttgart will be the host city — with the motto “Colour the World” and an ambitious participation number of around 5,000 singers from all over Europe. The organizers are the Creative Kirche Stiftung and the Evangelical Regional Church of Württemberg. The official co-organizer on-site is the Evangelical Church Community Stuttgart-Vaihingen.
The highlight of the festival is the mass rehearsal in the Porsche-Arena — one of Stuttgart's largest event venues (capacity approx. 6,500 seats). Around 5,000 singers will gather for a joint rehearsal and a joint concert — an acoustic and visual experience that is rarely matched in Europe in its scale. In addition, regional and international gospel stars will present their repertoire.
Over the three festival days, there is a dense workshop program: gospel techniques, choir conducting, improvisation, cajon accompaniment, piano accompaniment, voice training — workshops for all levels from beginner to professional. In addition, there is the informal networking program: choir directors, singers from all over Europe meet, exchange ideas, and learn from each other.
One of the most unusual program points is the Night of the Choirs: 75 choirs will be spread across 20 Stuttgart churches — for an entire night, choirs will play, sing, preach, and celebrate in the city's churches. Visitors can wander from church to church and experience a wide variety of styles — from traditional black gospel tradition to contemporary gospel-pop mixes to jazzy or classically tinged choir programs.
Stuttgart (state capital of Baden-Württemberg, independent city 08111) is a city with an active gospel scene and one of the oldest gospel traditions in Germany. The Evangelical Regional Church of Württemberg is one of the largest Evangelical regional churches in Germany — with active choir work, gospel workshops, and close ties to the international gospel scene. Stuttgart as host in 2026 is a logical choice.
From Friday, May 1st, to Sunday, May 3rd, 2026, Stuttgart will host Europe's largest gospel festival. Under the motto “Colour the World”, around 5,000 singers from all over Europe will gather for three days of music, community, and joy of faith.
Highlights include the mass rehearsal in the Porsche-Arena (one of Stuttgart's largest event venues), the comprehensive workshop program in several languages (gospel techniques, choir conducting, improvisation), the free open-air concerts in the city center, and the unusual Night of the Choirs, where 75 choirs perform in 20 Stuttgart churches — visitors can wander from church to church and experience the diversity of the European gospel scene.
