Arts and crafts, regional products, and culinary delights around Trinitatis Church – 'Urban Diversity meets Regional Quality' in Charlottenburg
Karl-August-Platz in the Charlottenburg district (Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf borough) is one of the most traditional public squares in West Berlin. At its center stands Trinitatis Church, a Neo-Gothic Protestant church, surrounded by market stalls – on Tuesdays and Saturdays, one of Berlin's most famous weekly markets takes place here. On festive occasions such as Easter, Thanksgiving, or Advent, the square transforms into an arts and crafts market.
The organizer is the non-profit association Family & Friends e.V., which has established itself over the years as an organizer of art and wine markets in several Berlin districts – at Karl-August-Platz, Ludwig-Beck-Platz, in Lichtenrade, and in Westend. The association sees itself as a neighborhood actor that creates a forum for encounters through its market formats. The topics are not only the markets themselves but also concerns such as more green spaces, clean playgrounds, and a vibrant Charlottenburg neighborhood life.
Around 70 stalls line Karl-August-Platz around Trinitatis Church. The spectrum ranges from contemporary ceramics, textile design, jewelry, woodwork, felt products, and prints to classic Thanksgiving products: honey from Brandenburg, jams from Spreewald, mustard specialties, wine from Werderaner Wachtelberg, cheese from Märkisch farm dairies, bread from traditional bakeries. The mix is deliberately curated – the motto 'Urban Diversity meets Regional Quality' is not just marketing, but a concept.
Thanksgiving has become rare in the modern Berlin cityscape. Market formats that translate this tradition into an urban context are all the more important. The Thanksgiving Arts and Crafts Market at Karl-August-Platz sees itself precisely in this way: it makes the seasonal connection to agriculture and craftsmanship visible – not in folkloric costume, but in contemporary curation. Trinitatis Church forms the spatial and symbolic bracket; its bells on the hour underscore the festive character.
Charlottenburg is one of the oldest and most prestigious districts of the state of Berlin. With Charlottenburg Palace, Kurfürstendamm, and the Deutsche Oper, it has its own distinct cultural profile – beyond the dominant Mitte-East axis. Karl-August-Platz fits into this established West Berlin cultural landscape as one of the liveliest neighborhood squares.
The 2026 edition takes advantage of the bridge day around October 3rd – families from Berlin and Brandenburg are mobile during the long weekend, and Charlottenburg is easily accessible by public transport and bicycle. The market format has proven itself over the years: a curated selection of around 70 stalls, a clear mix of contemporary arts and crafts and Thanksgiving-oriented regional cuisine, and a clear anchoring in the neighborhood.
Trinitatis Church forms the spatial bracket; the bells chiming on the hour give the market its ecclesiastical resonance. Food and drinks are available at gastronomic stalls; the event times and stall list will be communicated in late summer 2026 via the association's channels.
