Original Erlenbacher Weinfest — Four Days of Wine at Kayberg
The Original Erlenbacher Weinfest is one of the oldest and most atmospheric wine festivals in the Heilbronn district (Baden-Württemberg). The organizer is the Festverein Erlenbach am Kayberg e.V., an association of local clubs and vintners who organize the festival annually from Friday to Monday around the marketplace. Directly at the foot of the Kayberg — Erlenbach's premier vineyard with steep slopes and shell limestone soils — the historic alleys transform into a romantic wine village for four days.
Erlenbach and the Kayberg
Erlenbach is a wine-growing community of around 5,100 inhabitants, located northeast of Heilbronn at the transition from the Neckar Valley to the Weinsberg Valley. The town lives from wine — the Kayberg is famous for its Lemberger, Trollinger, Riesling, and Schwarzriesling, and the Genossenschaftskellerei Heilbronn has an important Erlenbach section here. The wine festival is more than just a wine bar: it is the community's club festival, supported by the sports club, music club, fire department, and vintner families.
Program Highlights
Numerous fixed program points are spread across the four festival days: on Sunday, the popular children's grape program with crafts, face painting, and grape juice slush; on Monday, the seniors' afternoon with reduced prices for Württemberg classics; late Monday evening, the crowning of the Onion Queen, who opens the next festival year with a crown made of parsley and onions. Brass bands, music clubs, and live bands provide the atmosphere throughout all days.
Culinary Delights and Wine Enjoyment
Erlenbach wineries will be serving their Kayberg wines and sparkling wines on the festival grounds. Regional specialties such as Maultaschen, Käsespätzle, Swabian Vesper, grilled dishes, and sweet treats will also be available. A dedicated wine tasting trail guides visitors through various stands — an ideal opportunity to discover the diversity of Württemberg grape varieties.
Atmosphere and Tradition
The atmosphere is familiar and down-to-earth — locals from Erlenbach and guests from all over the Heilbronn region meet year after year under the half-timbered beams at the marketplace. The festival has been running in a similar form for decades, is well integrated into the club's daily life, and is part of the "Weinfeste Heilbronner Land" season. Free admission, all food and drinks are sold at the club stands.
