The FAU's Garden Party in the Heart of Erlangen
The Erlangen Schlossgartenfest has been organized by Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU) since 1954 and always takes place on the last Saturday in June. It is one of the largest and most elegant university festivals in Germany and is considered the largest private garden party in Europe. The venue is the baroque Erlangen Schlossgarten at Schlossplatz 4, in the heart of the Middle Franconian university city of Erlangen.
Around 6,000 invited and ticket-eligible guests from university, politics, business, and society gather for this festive summer evening. Evening wear is mandatory – the festival consciously cultivates an elegant yet lively style. Erlangen, an independent city in the Middle Franconia administrative region, is known as a university and science city; the Schlossgartenfest is its social highlight of the year.
The official opening is marked by a welcome address from the President of the FAU. Until the early morning hours, the Schlossgarten transforms into a festively illuminated stage, uniquely combining science, culture, and conviviality.
The 70th edition of the Erlangen Schlossgartenfest will be held on Saturday, June 27, 2026, in the baroque Erlangen Schlossgarten. Should the weather make it impossible to proceed, the festival will be postponed by one week to July 4, 2026. Entry is from 5:30 PM, the official welcome by the FAU management will take place around 8 PM, and the festival ends around 2 AM. The highlight will be the grand fireworks display or light show at midnight, as usual. Several live bands, from classical dance music to big band, jazz, and funk, will perform in various locations in the garden, and science stations will present current FAU research.
Admission is exclusively by ticket. Sales start on March 26, 2026, and are exclusively online. There are reduced rates for university members and students of FAU and other universities.
