Endlich Open-Air Darmstadt

Born out of necessity — here to stay

In the summer of 2021, most festivals were cancelled due to the pandemic. The Centralstation Darmstadt, one of the city's most renowned venues, promptly decided to host its own open-air event on the Messplatz. The name said it all: "Endlich Open-Air" (Finally Open-Air). What started as a stopgap solution quickly found an enthusiastic audience and has since become an integral part of the Darmstadt summer.

Six evenings, a program of German and international top acts

Instead of a classic multi-day festival with camping, Endlich Open-Air offers a concert model: one headliner per evening, with one or two support acts, then it's over. This gives each artist their own stage — the audience experiences a compact concert evening rather than a tightly scheduled festival marathon.

These artists have played here

Over the years, acts such as Element of Crime, the Beatsteaks, Aurora from Norway, Turkish rap star Ezhel, Danger Dan, LEA, Helge Schneider, Mine, and the Anatolian indie project Altın Gün have performed. The musical spectrum ranges from singer-songwriter pop to indie rock, Anatolian folk, and comedy.

An open-air event in the heart of the city

The Messplatz is within walking distance of Darmstadt main station and the city center. The stage can accommodate around 5,000 spectators, and the atmosphere is both familiar and urban — no mud, no camping, but short distances and a real city festival vibe in the science city of Darmstadt.
