Weekly changing winemaker's serving series throughout the summer — every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday a different Birkweiler courtyard
The Birkweiler Weinsommer is not a one-off wine weekend, but a weekly changing serving series that runs throughout the summer from June 4th to August 30th, 2026. Every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, a different Birkweiler winery opens its courtyard – with wine service, small snacks, and a relaxed summer atmosphere.
The format works like a Palatinate wine seasons concept: instead of a mass festival with all winemakers on one weekend, the season is spread over 13 weeks, with a different host each week. This gives the individual wineries time and space for their own presentation – and visitors can discover a different Birkweiler courtyard again and again throughout the summer without being overwhelmed by a mass festival.
The Weinsommer is the joint concept of the Birkweiler wineries: every week from early June to the end of August, a different winery takes over the service on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. The order is set in advance; visitors can find the weekly schedule on birkweiler.de and weinjahreszeiten.de and know exactly which winery is hosting which courtyard in which week.
Birkweiler is one of the most renowned wine villages in the Palatinate and belongs to the top group of the Southern Wine Route. The famous Birkweiler Kastanienbusch vineyard, Birkweiler Manzenbergel, and Birkweiler Rosenberg are among the recognized VDP top sites. Birkweiler is particularly known for its Rieslings and Burgundian wines – several Birkweiler wineries are among the leading Palatinate producers.
In contrast to mass wine festivals with thousands of visitors, the Weinsommer focuses on an intimate courtyard format. Each participating courtyard welcomes guests according to its own possibilities – with tables in the courtyard, seating areas under trees, small stages, or simple bistro concepts. Palatinate specialties – Flammkuchen, bruschetta, cheese platters, and some courtyards also offer warm dishes – complement the wine tasting.
Birkweiler is located about 10 km west of Landau and belongs to the VG Landau-Land. Its location on the slope of the Vorderpfalz mountains, framed by vineyards and the Palatinate Forest, shapes the character of the place. Visitors to the Weinsommer should combine their courtyard visit with a hike through the Birkweiler vineyards – the top vineyards are accessible via marked wine hiking trails.
13 weeks of Birkweiler wine culture, intimate courtyard format instead of a mass festival. Riesling, Burgundy family, cuvées, sparkling wines from the Birkweiler top vineyards (Kastanienbusch, Manzenbergel, Rosenberg). Palatinate snacks in the courtyards. The exact program and the 2026 weekly rotation will be published by the organizer in spring.
