Two Days Open Air at the Sauerland Reservoir
Anyone who knows Meschede in the Sauerland on an August evening knows: The HenneseeFest is *the* date of the summer. For two days, the Hennedamm, the dam and dike of the Hennesees, transforms into a 700-meter-long open-air promenade with two stages, a lounge, food trucks, and countless table groups with a lake view. Free admission β from young to old, from families to festival-goers, the entire Meschede region flocks to the reservoir.
The musical concept focuses on genre-wide program diversity:
The full lineup will be announced in early summer 2026, as experience shows β read more at meschede.de/henneseefest.
The culinary side is one of the festival's strengths: Local food trucks, barbecue stations, beer from Veltins from nearby Grevenstein (Sauerland β Land of 1000 Mountains and Breweries), and drink bars line the dam. Vegetarian and vegan options are clearly marked.
Spearheaded by Stadtmarketing Meschede e.V. (Sophienweg 3, 59872 Meschede), which manages the year's largest open-air event, the HenneseeFest. The main sponsor is Sparkasse Mitten im Sauerland, with further partners including Veltins, ITH Schraubtechnik, Hochsauerland Wasser, and the Caritasverband Meschede. Without these sponsors, the festival would not be free.
With a water surface of 6.5 kmΒ², the Hennesee is one of NRW's largest reservoirs. The festival's location β directly on the crest of the dam with a view over the entire area to the Sauerland hills β is one of its unique selling points compared to other open-air events in the region.
As every year, the HenneseeFest 2026 runs on Fridays and Saturdays from 6 PM to approx. 1 AM. The two stages will be used alternately to minimize changeover gaps. The lounge opens in the afternoon for relaxed aperitif hours with a DJ.
Current program: meschede.de/henneseefest.
Free admission. Drinks and food at the truck stands at usual festival prices (beer approx. β¬4, cocktails β¬8β10).
By train: RE17 (Sauerland-Express) to Meschede station, then shuttle bus to the Hennedamm (10 min.). By car: A46 exit Meschede, then follow signs for 'Hennesee'. Parking around the lake, heavily used on festival days β arrive early or use the shuttle.
Bring a blanket β the lounge with lake view is popular, seating is limited. The sun sets around 8:50 PM in August, the sundowner on the dam is part of the experience. Admission is free, but the main stage gets crowded from around 9 PM β if you want to be close to the stage, come early.
