About Eldenaer Klostermarkt
Eldenaer Klostermarkt — edition 2026
The 11th edition of the Eldenaer Klostermarkt invites you to the monastery barn and park of Eldena on June 20th and 21st, 2026. Over 80 stalls and stations will be spread among the brick ruins.
The mix is characteristic: regional craftspeople — pottery, blacksmithing, leather, wood, felt, jewelry — alongside medieval reenactment, camp life, and mock combat. Medieval music accompanies the market activities, a children's theatre performs on a small stage, and hands-on stations invite visitors to create their own crafts.
Food will be available at several medieval-style taverns: stick bread, mead, stews, regional honey, and farm products. Free admission.

About the Market
The Eldenaer Klostermarkt takes place every year at the end of June in the famous Eldena monastery ruins. The brick Gothic architecture of the former 12th-century Cistercian abbey — captured by Caspar David Friedrich in around twenty paintings and thus becoming a symbol of German Romanticism — forms an extraordinary backdrop for market stalls, crafts, and cultural events.
Concept
Over 80 stalls and stations are spread across the monastery barn and park. Regional craftspeople are represented: pottery, wood, leather, blacksmithing, felt, jewelry, natural cosmetics, bookbinding. Alongside medieval market elements with reenactment groups, medieval music, mock combat, and camp life. For families: children's theatre, hands-on stations, craft demonstrations for young and old.
Catering
Regional culinary delights with a focus on traditional dishes — stick bread, mead, stews, regional farm products, honey. Several stalls are designed as medieval taverns.
Local Context
The Eldena monastery ruins belong to the European Route of Brick Gothic and connect Greifswald with the medieval Baltic region. It is one of the most famous sights in Vorpommern and is located on the southern bank of the Ryck, not far from its mouth into the Greifswalder Bodden.
