South Lower Saxony's largest city festival with Winterbock tapping, four stages, and over 200 market stalls
The Einbecker Eulenfest, launched in 1977, celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2026. In half a century, the festival has evolved from a regional city festival into one of Northern Germany's most famous folk festivals (Volksfeste). With around 100,000 visitors annually, the Eulenfest is the highlight of Einbeck's event calendar and one of the most important tourism drivers for South Lower Saxony.
The musical program is spread across four stages located throughout the city center. A main stage, the Jimie Stage on Möncheplatz, and other venues present a broad musical spectrum: regional and national bands, cover bands, pop, rock, Schlager (German pop music), and electronic music. On Sunday, a well-known Schlager star traditionally performs — a major draw for many Eulenfest fans.
Einbeck is considered the birthplace of bock beer. At the Eulenfest, Einbecker beer takes center stage: the traditional Winterbock tapping ceremony officially opens the festival, and various types of Einbecker bock beer are served at numerous stalls. Bockwurst, potato pancakes (Reibekuchen), crêpes, fries, lard pastries (Schmalzgebäck), and many other festival dishes offer a diverse culinary selection.
With more than 200 market stalls, the Eulenfest is also a full-fledged market experience. Showmen, craftspeople, specialty vendors, and artists present their offerings in a dense network, making a stroll through the old town an adventure of discovery.
Classic folk festival (Volksfest) attractions are part of the Eulenfest. Rides for children and adults, carousels, a Ferris wheel, and skill games provide entertainment for the whole family. Sunday is particularly family-oriented with extended shopping hours (1 PM to 6 PM) and a family program. Also on Sunday, the StadtpARTie Einbeck presents itself at its own stand.
The Eulenfest traditionally takes place on the second weekend of October — from October 9th to 11th, 2026.
The 2026 anniversary edition will celebrate the Eulenfest with special scale and program. 50 years of folk festival (Volksfest) tradition in Einbeck — an occasion to make the program even richer than in previous years.
The second weekend of October is the traditional date for the Eulenfest. The city fills with visitors from all over Lower Saxony, neighboring Hesse, and North Rhine-Westphalia.
