Duisburg's largest city festival from July 16th to 19th, 2026 on Königstraße with open-air stages, street food, and a family area
The Duisburg City Festival is the central summer event of the northern Ruhr metropolis. Duisburg Kontor GmbH – the city marketing and event subsidiary – has been organizing the festival since its fundamental relaunch in 2012. The venue is the central shopping street Königstraße and the adjacent squares in Duisburg's city center between the main train station and the town hall.
The 2026 edition runs from Thursday, July 16th to Sunday, July 19th – four consecutive festival days. The exact program will be published by Duisburg Kontor shortly. Recent editions followed the Thursday to Sunday pattern, with an opening on Thursday evening around 6 PM and stage programming late into the night.
Spread across Königstraße and the adjoining squares (Königsplatz, König-Heinrich-Platz, Sonnenwall area), there are several open-air stages with different musical profiles. The main stage presents pop and rock acts, a second stage focuses on cover bands, DJs, and electronic sets – complemented by a stage for regional music clubs, choirs, and folklore groups. Admission to all concerts is free.
Accompanying the music, the city festival features a street food mile with food trucks from the Ruhr area: Pulled Pork Burgers, vegan Buddha Bowls, Turkish Lahmacun, Lebanese Falafel, Italian Pizza, German Bratwurst, Crêpes, Ice Cream. In addition, there is an arts and crafts market with jewelry, ceramics, woodwork, and textiles from the region.
The family area in one of the squares includes classic carousels, bouncy castles, craft and drawing tables, climbing frames, and interactive stations. Children's programs from the city library, the Lehmbruck Museum's educational department, and local associations complement the offerings during the day.
With around 500,000 inhabitants, Duisburg is the fifth-largest city in North Rhine-Westphalia and shapes the northern Ruhr area. The city center has been repositioned for years with investments in public spaces (Königstraße redesign, City Palais). The city festival is part of this enhancement – it showcases the city center as a place to stay and live.
Four days of open festival mile in the city center – Duisburg's largest summer city festival, organized by Duisburg Kontor.
