Village Festival in the Elbe-Havel Region

Wulkau belongs to the municipality of Schönhausen (Elbe) – the municipality historically known as the birthplace of the German Reich Chancellor Otto von Bismarck (1815). The village of Wulkau is located on the eastern edge of the municipality in the Stendal district, in the Elbe-Havel-Winkel region, a quiet area crisscrossed by meadows and floodplains, marking the transition from the Altmark to the Brandenburg Prignitz. In 2026, the village festival will take place on June 20 on the Wulkau festival grounds.

Folk Festival with Fire Brigade Band

The village festival follows the classic format: festival tent opening on Saturday, stage program with local performers, dance evening, catering by the local heritage association and the volunteer fire brigade. The musical highlight is the performance of the Elbe-Havel-Land fire brigade band, which is well-known in the region and regularly performs at local festivals and village events. Children will find bouncy castles, games, and a tombola.

Stendal District — Altmark Meets Elbe

The Stendal district in the north of Saxony-Anhalt belongs to the historical Altmark and is the least densely populated district in the state. Schönhausen is located directly on the Elbe river – Wulkau is a few kilometers inland. The region is characterized by Brick Gothic architecture (Stendal, Tangermünde, Havelberg), Elbe floodplains, and a rural festival culture, which the village festival in Wulkau exemplifies.

Wulkau has no local celebrities, no glossy posters. Those who come here experience rural Saxony-Anhalt unadulterated: a festival tent made of wooden beams, bratwurst from the fire brigade grill, regional beer, and the music of a fire brigade band that has accompanied local festivals for decades.
