Kleinmaischeid — a small Westerwald village with great carnival culture

The municipality of Kleinmaischeid is located in the Dierdorf administrative district between Neuwied and the Wiedtal valley. Despite its size, the community cultivates a strong club culture, in which the carnival society “Rot-Weiß” Kleinmaischeid holds a firm place. The red and white color combination of the KG determines the look of the costumes and decorative elements.

Carnival Season 2026

The KG “Rot-Weiß” is organizing the 2026 carnival season as a three-day program in the village: Saturday, February 14, 8:11 PM: Costume ball; Sunday, February 15, 3:11 PM: Children's carnival; Rosenmontag, February 16, 2:11 PM: Rosenmontagszug. This staggered structure covers different generations and combines adult carnival, family and children's programs, and public street carnival.

The Parade

The Rosenmontagszug winds through the central streets of Kleinmaischeid. Participants include the KG “Rot-Weiß”, clubs, and friendly carnival groups from the neighboring municipalities of the Dierdorf administrative district. Dance groups, floats, walking groups, and music bands characterize the procession. Families line up along the route to catch candy and trinkets.

Local Carnival as a Cultural Carrier

Local and village carnivals like the one in Kleinmaischeid are important carriers of local identity. They complement the large city parades in Neuwied or Linz am Rhein with a village variant in which residents, clubs, and the parish work hand in hand.
