Three days of festival mile in the Lusatian village — Dorffest Weifa from August 7 to 9, 2026
Weifa is a district of the municipality of Steinigtwolmsdorf in the Bautzen district (Saxony) — a small settlement in Upper Lusatia, located between Bautzen and Sebnitz. Its location on the edge of the Lusatian Hills and near the Czech border gives the region a rural-conservative character with active club life. The annual Dorffest Weifa, organized by the Fest- und Traditionsverein Weifa e.V., is the village's most important festival weekend event. The 2026 edition will take place from August 7 to 9, 2026.
The Dorffest traditionally runs for three days, from Friday to Sunday. Friday opens the festival in the late afternoon with local music and a beer tapping ceremony. Saturday is the main festival day — dance stage in the festival tent with a live band and DJ, family program, club presentations, possibly a football tournament for local sports clubs. Sunday offers a morning pint (Frühschoppen) with brass music and a family afternoon program. The festival mile is set up in the main streets of Weifa — catering stalls, drink stands, small amusement rides for children.
The Fest- und Traditionsverein Weifa e.V. has been the voluntary organizer of the Dorffest for decades. Like many Saxon village clubs, it strives to preserve the village festival tradition against the trend of urban migration and club decline. The festival thus fulfills an important social function: it is the occasion for former Weifa residents from Bautzen, Dresden, and even from West Germany to return and visit their old home.
Current program updates for the Dorffest are communicated via the Instagram channel @weifa.feiert. This indicates a partly improvised program design: bands are often confirmed at short notice, and weather adjustments may be necessary. The atmosphere is cozy and rural, less glamorous than at urban festivals — and that is precisely its charm.
Weifa is best reached by car — public transport connections are limited. Take the A 4 motorway (Dresden–Görlitz), exit Burkau, then take the country road via Sohland an der Spree and Steinigtwolmsdorf to Weifa. Overnight stays in Steinigtwolmsdorf itself (small guesthouses) or in Bautzen (15 km). Sturdy footwear is recommended, as parts of the festival grounds may be on meadows.
From August 7 to 9, 2026, the Weifa district of the municipality of Steinigtwolmsdorf will once again transform into a colorful festival mile. Three days of village community with music in the festival tent, family program, club presentations, and the traditional conviviality that has characterized the Weifa Dorffest for years.
Current program updates will be communicated via the Instagram channel @weifa.feiert — a contemporary form of festival communication for a small village in Lusatia.
